We’ve seen a lot of internal combustion-engined cars converted to electric cars. It isn’t as complicated as going the other way round. In fact, no one has successfully managed to convert an EV to a fuel-powered vehicle ever… until now. Rich Rebuilds, the YouTuber known to work on discarded, damaged Teslas, is here with a ridiculous project that no one has ever finished – plonking an internal combustion engine in a Tesla. But, Rich is on the verge of achieving it by swapping the electric powertrain with a V-8 engine.

Rich Benoit has converted many cars to EVs in the past. This includes a battery-powered rat rod and an electric Mini, too. However, this time around he has tasked himself with a project that’s deemed impossible so far. Now, converting an EV to a fuel-powered car isn’t a simple swap as you have a lot more moving parts come in. You have a flat skateboard platform and no transmission tunnel, and a lot of bits that will have to be custom-fabricated to allow this project to end successfully.

The car in question is a base Tesla Model S 75 that will be powered by a 6.2-liter, V-8 LS engine sourced from a decade-old Camaro. It makes 426 ponies, which would be an upgrade over the Model S’ 382 horsepower in pure numbers.

The V-8 will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. Rich says the reason to pick the LS-engine is the availability of spare parts over the years and the level of customization that’s possible with it.
