When you think of drag racing, you probably think of big American V-8s or high-horsepower GT-Rs and Lamborghinis. Most people definitely don’t think of Volkswagens and Audis, but VeeDubRacing is here to show us that some of VAG's offerings can be very capable platforms when done right. The tuning specialists from HST brought out their all-wheel-drive Audi TT in order to correct a mishap from two years ago when their car crashed while attempting to set a new record. This time, however, it managed.

The record-breaking car is based on the latest iteration of the Audi TT, with internal designation 8S. However, the front has been converted to a tubular space frame and the front-end bodywork has been converted to a one-piece clamshell that comes off. The engine itself is a billet VR6 R32 engine that you normally find in the Golf R32 and other VAG offerings from the 2000s.

There is also a bigger version of the engine called the R36, but HST may have decided to use this one for packaging reasons. Typical for the VR engine is the extremely narrow angle of 15 degrees, allowing it to have one cylinder head as opposed to two like on a normal V-6. The turbocharger is an 88mm ProMod unit and allows the engine to produce 1,566 horsepower at the crankshaft. The car still features Quattro all-wheel-drive while the transmission is a six-speed sequential.

The car makes a total of five runs, one of which had to be aborted due to loss of traction. 7.5 seconds is the time to beat and the HST Audi TT managed to destroy the record in the fourth run while the fastest trap speed was in the fifth run. We won’t spoil it for you so you can watch the video and see for yourself what the small Audi is capable of.
