More than the exterior design, we’re curious about the smaller hybrid mills that will be a lot more powerful than the outgoing V-8
by Sidd Dhimaan, onThe next-gen Mercedes-AMG C63 sedan and C43 wagon have been testing for a very long. It has been spotted in many places and in various testing conditions, but it had heavy camouflage on every time. This time around, the skin is a lot lesser, and both the vehicles are practically naked on the sides.
The C63 sedan was seen riding on different wheel designs at the front and back. Honestly, it’s tough to pick one because both look pretty hot. They are shod in low-profile tires. That wasn’t the case with the C43 wagon, though. It had the same set of wheels, but looks pretty good.
Both the vehicles have the signature AMG traits like the Panamericana grille, the aggressive bumpers and sharp headlights, quad-exhaust tip setup, etc. They also have rear spoilers and side skirts. On the inside, expect things like a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 11.9-inch touchscreen, etc.
The cars will mark a new era of sorts for the automaker and its performance division moving forward. The 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that we’ve been seeing under the hood will now be replaced by an engine half the size in terms of displacement, turbocharges, as well as cylinder count. The cars will have a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-pot mill. However, it will be a hybrid setup. This means we’ll get an electric motor and a battery mounted at the rear. Throw in a limited-slip differential into the mix as well.
There’s no word on the power outputs so far, but expect over 600 horses combined. The engine could make over 400 ponies and the electric motor more than 200 horses. To put things into perspective, the V-8 mill churns out 469 horses in the current C63, and a shade over 500 in the C63 S.
The C63 sedan and the C43 wagon could come out by the end of the year as 2023 models.
