A Middle Eastern man who claims to have the largest collection of Hot Wheels toys in the whole Middle East region is putting his entire collection up for sale for 440,000 dirhams, which converts to just under $120,000. The collection is said to include over 8,000 pieces of Hot Wheels toys, ranging from 1968 to 2018.

Collecting Hot Wheels is serious business, so don’t be surprised by the astronomical asking price for this lot. The most expensive Hot Wheels item — a 1969 Pink Rear-Loading Volkswagen Beach Bomb — was bought by a man named Bruce Pascal, considered as the pre-eminent Hot Wheels collector in the world.

It’s unclear how many rare items this collector has in his collection, but browsing through the photos show that he does have a few of the same VW Beach Bombs, albeit in different colors. The seller also has a number of custom 1968 Volkswagen Beetles, but his versions have the sunroof, which typically cost less than the $1,500 version without the sunroof. His Beetles should still fetch a pretty penny by themselves, adding credence to his claims that there are some classic Hot Wheels in his collection.

All told, 8,000 pieces is a lot — Pascal has 3,500 pieces, including 175 rare prototypes — so there’s a scenario wherein that $120,000 asking price is justified. The seller also claims that he started his collection over 22 years ago, enough time for him to accumulate that many pieces to add to the lot. More importantly, he also claims that his collection was appraised back in 2012 for $200,000 so whoever ends up buying the whole lot will get a bargain out of it.

Those of us who don’t collect Hot Wheels will find it hard to stomach paying $120,000 for this collection. But don’t sleep on the Hot Wheel community and their obsession for these miniature cars. There’s a big community all over the world who collect these cars, and it only takes one interested buyer, presumably one with deep pockets, to take this collection off the seller’s hands.

We’ve seen other toy collections go for far more than what the seller’s asking, so it’s possible that he finds someone who’s going to pay him his financial windfall. Let’s just hope that all parties concerned will end up happy with the transaction.
