The Nissan Titan was introduced to the market in late 2003 after four years of development and being previewed by the 2001 Alpha T concept. That generation ran a remarkable 12 years before Nissan introduced the second-generation model for the 2016 model year. The pickup segment is much hotter than it once was, and Nissan isn’t taking any chances. That’s why we’re looking at the teaser you see here. Not only does it preview a sizeable facelift for the 2020 Nissan Titan, but it also hints at the design of the update Nissan Patrol, and a hotter off-road model that could take on the Toyota Tundra TRD Pro and the Ford F-150 Raptor. Nissan hasn’t said much about the facelifted model, but some leaks of the new Patrol and the teaser does give us a little bit to talk about.

2020 Nissan Titan Teaser Image

This new teaser might hint at some of the design cues of the updated Nissan Patrol, but it also tells us that the updated Nissan Titan, despite the common DNA, will have a look all its own. On the surface, we can see that the Titan will have a grille that’s similar to that of a chain-link fence. The headlights will be shared with the new Patrol, but outside of that, everything is different.

We’ve decided to lighten up the teaser as best we could. Sometimes there’s just no data, but this time, we were able to reveal bits of the hood and most of the lower fascia. The lower fascia is dominated by a big black air dam with what we expect will be somewhat aggressive. Not necessarily on all models, but the model teased here is actually one focused on off-roading, hence the red coloration of the Nissan logo on the original teaser. A pair of fog lights will also reside in the lower corners, a feature the new Patrol won’t have as far as we know.

Perhaps you’re thinking that Nissan is trying to freshen up its logo, but that isn’t the case. Think about Honda with the Type R or Volkswagen with the red on the GTi badge. That’s how we know this is teaser is showcasing a glimpse of the Titan PRO-4X; Nissan has just decided to go with red for its off-road performance model since, you know, Nissan won’t try to make a pickup that’s destined for on-road performance.

When will the 2020 Nissan Titan PRO-4X Debut?

Nissan has chosen to debut the Titan PRO-4X as the face of the 2020 Titan’s facelift, and it’ll all happen on September 26th at the State Fair of Texas – a venue that’s becoming more and more synonymous with pickup truck debuts. No surprise, since Texas is big on pickup’s, right? It’s possible, but chances are we’ll have to wait to learn more until the big day on the 26th. For what it’s worth, the Titan’s exterior design will be limited to mild changes in the front, and there may be some minor revisions to the interior and the tech inside. For the most part, however, the updated Titan will remain quite similar to the model that we know now – it’ll be just a little bit better. The real question is whether or not Nissan is going to continue pushing new variations and special editions after the facelift – lord knows there’s already been more than we can count.
