With the advent of EVs in the last couple of years, all people talk about is the range, battery capacity, or the number of motors equipped on its axle. So, let’s catch a break and remember a lovely BMW model from the past – the 1974 2002 Turbo. This model is fondly remembered as the first turbocharged production model to have rolled out of BMW’s production line. The German automaker made less than 1,700 examples of this beauty during its two-year production run. One of them recently arrived at the Bring-a-Trailer auctions and you can make it yours if you act fast.

It Was Repainted In The Original Silver Exterior Shade

This little pocket rocket was finished in the Polaris Metallic shade originally and was later repainted in the same shade. It comes with wheel arch extensions and air dams made of fiberglass, M Sport tri-color stripes, and a reversed ‘Turbo’ decal. The 2002 Turbo rides on Uniroyal tires wrapped around 13-inch Alpina wheels. It has discs at the front and drums at the rear. As for the suspension setup, the car features Bilstein shocks at the rear and sway bars at the front and rear.

The Car Has Done 17,000 Miles

The cabin is finished in black vinyl all around, including the dash, door panels, and floor carpets. Behind the three-spoke steering wheel is an instrument cluster with a speedometer and a tachometer. The odometer shows around 17,000 miles. The trunk houses a spare wheel and comes with painted plywood floor panels. Other than this, the car comes with:

-* BMW Bavaria S Radio

-* Bolstered Bucket Seats

-* Rear Window Defroster

-* Heater

BMW’s First Turbocharged Production Car

Under the hood of the 2002 Turbo is a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine. A dyno test was done in April 2020 and it shows the power outputs at 188 horses and 179 pound-feet of torque. All the oomph hits the ground via the rear wheels. Power is channelized through a four-speed manual gearbox and a factory limited-slip differential.

At the time of penning this article, the car received 20 bids, with the highest bid of $136,000. The auction closes in two days.
