Ferrari is one of the few brands that even grown-ups lust after the same way they did when they were young. Sadly, owning a car from the Prancing Horse’s “Scuderia” is a privilege few of us get. Things are not as grim on the used market and this 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB is a perfect example that owning a Ferrari doesn’t have to be a distant mirage. While prices for the 308 have already crept up to the $100,000 mark, this particular example is listed for “just” $79,500.

It’s very difficult finding the most desired spec of a car, which is why this 1978 Ferrari 308 GTB may seem a bit too good to be true. The car is being offered by a dealership in Houston, Texas. The exterior is finished in Rosso Corsa which goes well with the black leather upholstery and dark-blue carpeting. With 2,185 units produced between 1976 and 1980, the Ferrari 308 is rare even for a classic exotic car.

This car with chassis number F106AB26247 left the Maranello factory in October 1978 and was first registered on February 10th, 1979. Since then, the car has driven 33,750 miles (54 315 km) on the odometer, which is believed to be original.

The car comes with meticulous service records, which includes a 30,000-km major service in April 2017. This service included new sway bar bushings, front steering rack, tie rods, and four-wheel alignment. In February 2019, assessment and belt service were done, followed by a “major timing belt service” in February 2020. In August 2020, the air conditioner and fuel delivery system were overhauled. The car also comes with a smog pump delete, carried out by the previous owner.

The Ferrari 308 GTB is equipped with the Tipo106, 2.9-liter naturally-aspirated V-8 that featured four, twin-choke Weber carburetors. With smog equipment on, the U.S. versions produced 237 horsepower at 6,600 RPM, as opposed to 252 horsepower, in European-spec models. Power goes to the rear through a five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. And, of course, we have to mention, the gated shifter. You will also find the Pininfarina body number "784" stamped on the front and rear hoods.

The classic Ferrari comes with all the original literature, jack, and tool kit. It’s not every day a 1978 Ferrari 308 with the most desired body style, finished in one of the most iconic Ferrari colors – Rosso Corsa appears up for sale. Given the price trends for classic Ferrari models as well as their appeal, we certainly understand the sudden urge to go to the bank and negotiate a loan.
