This supercharged Audi R8 packs around 800 horsepower, but who will pay almost $200,000 to take it home?

LISTEN 02:57

The second-generation Audi R8 is already six years old as of 2021, but it’s still a cool and powerful sports car. But if you’re among enthusiasts who view the Audi as a softer version of the Lamborghini Huracan, this widebody and supercharged R8 might change your mind. It has $100,000 in upgrades yet it’s notably more affordable than a Huracan.

Sold by Creative Bespoke on eBay, this R8 is not your regular V-10-powered Audi. A range-topping V10 Plus model underneath, this R8 is fitted with a full widebody kit by Prior Design. Not only it makes the R8 look planted and more powerful on the road, but it also improves its aerodynamics thanks to the revised front splitter and side skirts and the wing on the rear deck.

The R8 also rides on aftermarket wheels, being fitted with Brixton HS1 two-piece rims. The multi-spoke wheels feature an intricate design and are finished in some sort of bronze color that goes well with the bright red body. The wheels come wrapped in Michelin tires. Speaking of paint, the whole car has a protection film to keep the surfaces safe from scratches.

Moving onto the technical bits, the supercar is fitted with a valved exhaust system by Capristo. More importantly, the rear hood hides a Whipple Gen 3 supercharger. In all, this Audi R8 features upgrades worth around $100,000.

But how powerful is it? The listing doesn’t say, but we do know that a Whipple Gen 3 blower can increase the output of the 5.2-liter V-10 by 150 to 180 horsepower. Given that the 2017 R8 V10 Plus came with 602 horsepower on tap, this modified coupe could generate up to 800 horsepower. The supercharged can also increase torque by around 40 percent, so the R8 could now generate more than 580 pound-feet (versus the standard 413 pound-feet).

The seller wants $199,500 for this heavily modified R8. That’s almost $57,000 more than the base R8 Coupe in the U.S. and almost $3,000 more than the V10 Performance trim, which replaced the V10 Plus in 2018. That’s a lot of cash for a used supercar, but things aren’t that expensive if we factor in the $100,000 upgrades.

There’s also the fact that this R8 was driven for only 3,522 miles since 2017, so it’s as new as a four-year-old car can be. Compared to the 2021 Huracan, the beefed-up R8 is $15,000 cheaper, so it’s not a bad deal given that it cranks out around 800 horsepower. It’s a full-blown sleeper and it’s loaded with standard features reminiscent of the Plus package.
