The next generation Mercedes-Benz GLC has been caught testing many times before - but each of those times it was heavily camouflaged. Now, it looks like the company is finally ready to reveal some design elements of the next GLC, as the new prototype caught testing wears very little camouflage. That's the good news. The bad news is that the next GLC offers no surprise when in terms of design language: as expected, it looks pretty much identical to the new generation C-Class.

There are a few elements of particular importance on this prototype. First, the lack of license plates indicate that the latest testing is being done on private ground and second, since only the front and rear wear a little camouflage an official debut should be very close.

As for the car itself, the next GLC will be a little bit longer than the current generation - by about 0.6 inches when it comes to the wheelbase and 2.5 inches in length. This small increase will offer increased legroom in the rear, but also more cargo room - up from 19.4 cubic-feet to 21.1 cubic-feet.

While both the exterior and the interior will be heavily inspired by the new C-Class, things will be a little bit different under the hood. The C-Class is limited to only four-cylinder engines, but the SUV will also get a six-cylinder mill paired with a mild-hybrid system rumored to add an extra 22 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque. This engine will be offered in the GLC 400d trim level, while everything else - including the AMG versions will be offered with four-cylinder engines, combined of course with mild-hybrid technology.

The latest reports suggest that the new generation Mercedes-Benz GLC will be unveiled on June 1st, 2022, with sales to begin later in the autumn. The gasoline-powered versions will be followed by an all-electric version sometime in 2024.
