This murdered-out, 550-horsepower Mazda RX-7 is pure art on wheels

Built from 1978 to 2002 in three different generations, the RX-7 is arguably Mazda’s most iconic model. Launched at the same time as the other iconic Japanese sports car, the Toyota Supra, the RX-7 is responsible for making the rotary engine popular and stands as proof that the design can deliver performance and reliability.

The final generation debuted a twin-turbo mill that generated up to 276 horsepower despite displacing only 1.3 liters. Replaced by the not-so-successful RX-8 in 2002, the RX-7 remains a desirable classic. But while some opt to hunt down well-maintained originals, other enthusiasts purchase third-gen cars and fit them with bigger and more powerful engines. The outstanding model shot by Covert Media in 4K is one of them.

Powered by a 550-horsepower engine, this third-gen RX-7 sports a murdered-out look with all body elements finished in black. It also features extensive aero upgrades, such as a big front splitter with winglets, motorsport-inspired side skirts, and a new rear bumper and trunk lid spoiler.

The hood was also modified to include a pair of three-piece vents and a central outlet between the headlamps.

Needless to say, this hood seems to be based on the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1, but it looks the part on the RX-7. Sadly, there’s music on the background and we can’t hear the engine roar, but the car rolls down the road in style.
