Excluding some of the EV stuff, BMW is known for making some pretty awesome driver’s cars. While newer models may lack some of the appeal of older models, AutoTopNL is more than happy to show us this 2006 BMW 335i Touring that has been heavily modified to produce a Lamborghini Aventador-like 700 horsepower and unspecified (probably, massive) amounts of torque. Touring, as you know, designates BMW’s station wagons, and this particular one is very quick. Supercar-quick.

The N54 engine shines in all its might

When it comes to the BWM 335i E9X generation, there are two inline-six engine options –the N54 on pre-facelift models (2005 – 2008) and the N55 on facelift models (2008 – 2013). This particular BMW 335i E91 is a 2006 model year, which means it comes with the N54, 3.0-liter, twin-turbo, inline-six. The N55, which is generally referred to as the more refined engine, features a single, twin-scroll turbocharger, which while slightly more efficient, doesn’t react quite as well to performance modifications as the twin-turbo N54.

The N54 inline-six engine has been fully-built and has been tuned to run E85, courtesy of a flex-fuel system and a custom MHD tune (you can learn more about the parts in the video). Long story short, it now packs “around 700 horsepower” and likely more than 550 pound-feet (745 Nm). This BMW has been properly sorted, with the appropriate cooling and chassis upgrades, meaning it’s more than capable of handling the massive power.

Still a work in progress

Power goes to the rear wheels only through a six-speed automatic that has been remapped. The owner of the car is, reportedly, thinking of swapping the six-speed automatic for a seven-speed DCT unit from the BMW M4. Once that happens, we hope the car makes a comeback to the channel so we can see just how much of a difference the new transmission would make. In addition, M3 driveshafts and a limited-slip differential are also in the pipeline so the car is, pretty much, still a project.

As we know, most BMWs punch well above their weight and AutoTopNL has featured plenty of them, both stock and modified. Some of them include a BMW E46 M3 CSL, which goes well above its top speed, and an insane, V-10-swapped BMW M3 E46, which feels like it came as it is from the factory. The fact that this 335i is a station wagon and packs so much power is, in itself, epic, and the video perfectly showcases the results of all the mods. To give some perspective, its 100 to 200 km/h (62 to 124 mph) time of 6.08 seconds (on a hot day, no less) is identical to a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
