This 800-Mile Honda S2000 Is Being Sold For $150,000
Another day, another ridiculously expensive used carby Isaac Atienza, on
Used car prices have certainly been crazy as of the moment. At a time when a used, factory-supercharged Toyota FJ Cruiser is selling for $80,000 and a modded, used Nissan GT-R is listed for more than $120,000, this low-mileage, $150,000 Honda S2000 suddenly starts to seem normal.
This Honda S2000 that’s listed at RP Exotics was registered in 2008, and back then, it cost $34,500. So, why would you pay five times over its SRP right now? Well, that’s because, at merely 822 miles in the odometer, this car is so new, it hasn’t even been broken in.
And, that’s pretty much the main reason why this car is ridiculously expensive. Sure, its F22C1 237-horsepower, 2.0-liter four-cylinder naturally-aspirated engine has the signature VTEC kick and high-revving raspy sound. Plus the sharp steering, short-throw six-speed manual, and rear-wheel drive (RWD) layout with a limited-slip differential (LSD) are the perfect ingredients for a sports car. But is it worth nearly the same amount as a Porsche 911 GT3? Oh, hell no!
What this is, however, is not a car to be driven for enjoyment, but a car that’s treated as a commodity. It’s basically an investment as this is pristine enough to be a museum piece. The moment this Honda S2000 racks up the miles, expect its price to go down significantly, and then this will be just any other Honda S2000 on the used car lot.
If you really want a Honda S2000 that’s in pristine condition but at a more affordable price, then you’d be happy to know that it isn’t too difficult of a find. Platforms such as
CarsForSale have a decent listing, but considering how these cars have an iconic status, their average price tends to hover in the $30,000 to $50,000 range.
But, what do you think? Would you pay six figures for a low mileage iconic Japanese sports car such as the Honda S2000?
