This drag race happens between a Cadillac CTS-V and a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1 LE, two American performance cars that are evenly matched on paper. Unfortunately for the Camaro ZL1, the Cadillac isn’t a typical CTS-V; it’s been tuned by Hennessey to produce gobsmack amounts of power to the tune of 1,000 ponies and 966 pound-feet of twist. There is no need for spoilers here; the Hennessy-tuned CTS-V annihilates the stock Camaro ZL1 1LE.

What’s the tale of the tape?

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 is a monster. Let’s get that out of the way. It’s powered by a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that produces 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque.

It’s by far the most powerful stock Camaro in the nameplate’s history and that power translates to incredible performance times.

Against a stock Cadillac CTS-V, the Camaro ZL1 might even have the edge in a rolling drag race. The performance sedan is powered by a similar 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine that produces 640 horsepower and 630 pound-feet of torque. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 200 mph.

Unfortunately for the Camaro, this isn’t a stock CTS-V. The Caddy is equipped with Hennessey’s vaunted HPE1000 performance kit that includes a high-flow supercharger, a reinforced transmission, and a slew of drivetrain upgrades. The result is a V-8 engine that produces a whopping 1,000 horsepower and 966 pound-feet of torque.

Not only is that faster than the stock CTS-V by a full second, but it’s also 0.8 seconds quicker than the stock Camaro ZL1.

How did the race go?

It didn’t go well for the Camaro ZL1, that’s for sure. To be fair, though, the race itself wasn’t fair. It’s like hitting the ring with a juiced-up boxer. You can have the same build and the same skill set, but if he’s packing more power in his hands, it’s only a matter of time before you get sent to the canvas. So while it was fun to see the Hennessy-tuned CTS-V destroy the Camaro ZL1 in this rolling drag race, it’d be even more fun if it was a level playing field.

Is a level playing field possible between these two?

Yes, it is, but we’re going to have to wait for that. As it turns out, the Camaro ZL1 that the Hennessey-tuned Caddy walloped in this race will also get the full-on Hennessey treatment, HPE1000 tuning kit included. Once completed, the muscle car will also pack 1,000 horsepower and 883 pound-feet of torque. More importantly, it’ll be able to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds and, according to Hennessey, hit a supercar-like top speed of 217 mph.

I’d be enjoying the spoils of victory if I was the Cadillac CTS-V. There’s a very good chance that it won’t last.
