This Chevy C8 Corvette Roadster Is The Limited Edition Vette the World Needs
If only Chevrolet was a luxury automaker...by Tudor Rus, on
We don’t know about you, but for us, when the words Chevrolet and roadster are joined together, a mental picture of the Chevy SSR lights up our brains. As wild and daring as the SSR was, that contraption - a retractable hard-top convertible pickup truck - has nothing to do with the C8 Corvette roadster renders you’re about to see.
Chevy won’t join the roadster bandwagon but it’s nice to dream
Roadsters are a rather rare sight in the car world.
These super-expensive, sleek-looking marvels only come to attention every decade or so but when they do, it's all eyes on them.
In recent times, a handful of carmakers have launched such body styles, including the likes of McLaren (with the Elva), Aston Martin (with the V12 Speedster), and Bentley (with the ultra-high-maintenance Mulliner Bacalar).
That said, we don’t expect Chevrolet to have a stab at the roadster market. See the cars above? They all come from luxury carmakers (British, too) and wear exorbitant stickers. Given that Chevy’s creed with the C8 ’Vette was to offer high performance for the lowest possible price, the idea of a C8 Corvette roadster is simply going against the grain here.
Of course, this doesn’t chip away at the sheer awesomeness of @carmstyledesign1’s would-be Corvette Roadster renders. They capture exactly what a roadster should flaunt: long hood, aggressive design, low stance, and some pretty neat color combinations.
Not to mention the real C8’s 6.2-liter V-8 will work wonders on the roadster’s performance credentials, which makes us ask the question: could such thing as an affordable roadster be of interest to today’s buyer?
Maybe Chevy should look into that with more depth, since by the looks of it, the design and performance issue is pretty much solved...
