This Drag Race Shows That Your Best Bet Is A Tesla Model S Plaid If You Have A Cop Car On Your Ass!

Not that you should try to outrun a cop car, but the Model S Plaid will leave it in the dust

Erik Strait from “DÆrik” uploaded a drag racing video on his YouTube channel. It includes the king of the drag strip, the Tesla Model S Plaid, going up against a Colorado State patrol car. We know which car wins, but it’s still fun to see the Plaid obliterate other cars on the drag strip.

The Cop Car Was Six Seconds Slower!

In the race, the Model S Plaid finished the quarter-mile race in 10.422 seconds. Erik had to slow down to make sure he didn’t clock a sub-10-second time that would’ve gotten him booted from the track. Remember how those NHRA rules got Emelia Hartford booted from the track? The specs of the state patrol car aren’t mentioned, but it took 16.554 seconds to complete the quarter-mile race wherein it managed to touch 84.93 mph.

For the uninitiated, these are the Plaid specs:

  • It is based on the Model S
  • The car comes with a tri-motor setup
  • Generates 1,020 horses combined
  • 0-60 mph in 1.99 seconds under ideal conditions
  • Quarter-mile run in 9.23 seconds with a trap speed of 155 mph
  • Top speed of 200 mph
  • World’s most aero-efficient car - Drag coefficient of 0.208
  • An estimated range of 390 miles
  • Supports fast charging up to 250 kW, and can add 187 miles of range in 15 minutes
  • F1-inspired, yoke steering wheel
  • Priced at $129,900

Let’s Hope This Doesn’t Happen In The Real World

While this was all fun and games, this gives us a glimpse of how bad things could be in the real-world scenario if the bad guys happen to drive a Plaid. It’s only a matter of time before we start hearing about such cases where the cops were not able to chase down successfully because the goons disappeared into thin air. We won’t be surprised to hear PDs replacing their current crop of internal combustion cars with EVs.

The Indiana Police Department had replaced one of their Dodge Chargers with a Tesla Model 3 back in 2019 and they couldn’t be any happier. In fact, they were on the brink of breaking even earlier than expected! EVmakers realize this too and are working towards it. Remember Rivian’s patented seats that make it easy for the cops to carry guns? Or the Fisker Ocean Force E SUV? Expect other automakers to also pitch in and try to employ their EVs in various federal organizations.
