Brabus is known for its mighty powerful builds. They are unlike any other aftermarket companies and tuners, and are one of the most expensive ones out there. So, when the good folks at ‘Carwow’ brought a Brabus creation to the race strip for some fun, it piqued our interest. Called the Brabus 850, it was a jacked-up Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 with oodles of performance upgrades. It went up against a Lamborghini Urus and a Tesla Model X Performance. On paper, it is the most powerful of the lot. But, was it the same in the real world as well?
What Are We Dealing With Here?
The Brabus 850 is based on the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 coupe. It is powered by a mighty 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 that puts out 850 horsepower and a massive 1,069 pound-feet of torque!
The Lamborghini Urus comes with a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 engine that makes 650 ponies and 627 pound-feet of oomph.
The Tesla Model X Performance, on the other hand, comes with a dual-motor setup that churns out 670 horses and 715 pound-feet of torque.
The Brabus is pretty heavy, tipping the scales at 5,181 pounds. While it is heavier than the 4,844-pound Urus, it is almost 500 pounds lighter than the Tesla which weighs 5,670 pounds.
How Were The Races?
The first race kicked off with the Model X Performance getting off the line the quickest. Surprisingly, the Brabus was last in the pack despite being the most powerful car here. It’s got a healthy amount of torque as well, but somehow, it didn’t do well at all. The results were kind of sealed the moment they kicked off the line, but the Urus started reeling the Model X at the very end of the race. The Tesla managed to win just by the nose here. Had there been some more distance, we would’ve had a different result. The Model X completed the race in 11.9 seconds, the Model X in 12 seconds, and the GLE 850 in 12.8 seconds.
They moved on to a roll race next. They started from 30 mph and the ICE vehicles were slotted in their sportiest settings. The Tesla doesn’t have gears, but the others started from the second cog. At kickdown, the Model X rocketed away, as expected. The Brabus performed better than the Urus this time around. It looked like the Brabus had started reeling in the Tesla once they hit the triple-digit speeds, but it couldn’t edge it before the half-mile distance. So, that’s two straight wins for the Tesla over its fuel-powered rivals.
The final round was the brake test from 100 mph. The Urus stopped in the shortest distance, followed by the Model X and the Brabus 850. Unfortunately, the Brabus didn’t win a single round here, which is kind of surprising given its paper specs. Watch the video below and let us know your thoughts about it in the comments section.
