Electric cars are a great way to save money by not using gas or diesel and to help the world cut down on emissions, but we can all agree that EVs sound dull at low speeds and a bit annoying under full throttle. Thanks to Thor Tuning, now we can fix that with an electronic exhaust that will make your EV sound like any car out there or even a jet fighter. And it also works on hybrids or any other car, powered by gasoline or diesel.

How does it work?

Thor's exhaust, named after the Norse god of thunder, is an electronic device that's actually a metal-encased loudspeaker. Built in spheroidal structures made of titanium-steel alloy, the electric exhaust is suitable for any modern car and it can be fitted behind the rear bumper, so that the "exhaust" sound comes from the right place.

Once the Thor exhaust is in place, you will also need to install a CAN (Controller Area Network) bus to allow the device to communicate with your car's engine or electric motors. This device ensures perfect synchronization between engine operation and the electric exhaust, so everything sounds natural and in sync.

Both come with custom settings for volume, pops, and dynamic start and are easy to install. The device does not void car warranty and it can be reinstalled on another car.

What does it sound like?

Well, since it's a speaker, it can sound like anything you want. But this is limited to the engine sounds included in the app. Thor says it provides more than 20 "legendary sports car sounds," with one new engine note added every month.

As of November 2020, the list of available sounds include vehicles like the Chevrolet Corvette C7, Mercedes-AMG G 63, Audi R8, BMW M4, Porsche Panamera, Ferrari 488 GTB, Mercedes-AMG C 63, and the Audi RS7}. There's also a Hot Rod options that simulates a roaring, beefed-up V-8, but you can also make your car sound like a jet fighter. You can also get into the Christmas spirit for the holidays with an exhaust sound that plays Jingle Bells.

To operate it you need to download the Thor app on your smartphone, from which you can integrated into your car. Once you do that, you can switch through the exhaust sounds by using the standard car controls. You can also use the app on a smart watch.

How much does it cost?

The Thor electronic exhaust costs $1,045 with one loudspeaker and $1,525 if you select the two-loudspeaker version. The device is built in Russia and shipping is free, but you will have to pay VAT and other taxes depending on your location. Installing the device in your car won't void the warranty. The Thor exhaust itself comes with a two-year warranty and an unlimited service life.
