Electrification of our favorite internal combustion-powered vehicles is well underway and even trucks have succumbed to the trend. Models like the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning have already proven that you can still have plenty of performance and hauling capabilities without having to rely on dinosaur-fueled V-8s or even twin-turbo V-6s. With that said, our sister site, HotCars, recently featured a rendering by digital artist, Timothy Adry Emmanuel, which gives us a neat idea of what an all-electric mashup between the Ford F-150 Raptor and F-150 Lightning would look like.
Mixing the past and the future
With electricity not yet firmly established as the main automotive propulsion, many enthusiasts yearn for the rumbling soundtrack of a big V-8 and the whine of the supercharger. With that said, the digital artist has taken the current, all-electric F-150 Lightning and given it all the rugged design elements of the Raptor model.
The designer has not spared anything and all of the dinosaur-powered, F-150 Raptor’s rugged, off-road accessories have been laid upon the, once clean lines of the EV pick-up truck. These include the contrasting skid plate, safari-style front bumper, and even the Raptor-exclusive graphics. Naturally, the stance has been raised and new off-road wheels and tires have been fitted. Those sit nicely in the plastic, fender flares. As this is an EV, the ICE-powered Raptor’s diamond-patterned grille has been closed off, but still retains the same pattern as the hardcore version of the American truck.
The hood bulge is another favorite feature that has been carried over from the Raptor. However, it is also the only one that is a bit unnecessary on the electric-powered truck. Still, it is an homage to the outgoing F-150 Raptor despite having no functionality here whatsoever. Still, it’s not nearly as embarrassing as the fake hoops that stick out of the Hummer H2’s hood, which mimicked the H1’s chassis-mounted hoops that were there so it can be air-dropped.
Should Ford make a Raptor version of the F-150 Lightning?
While still on topic, Ford has not yet announced a Raptor version of the Ford F-150 Lightning, but looking at these renderings and the success of the model, it should. Electric propulsion may not be to everyone’s taste, but vehicles like the F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, GMC Hummer EV, and company have already proven that EV pick-up trucks and fun can go hand in hand.
