A highly-tuned Camaro takes on a ballistic Supra in a quarter-mile duel at the MITM Elite H Pattern showdown at the World Wide Technology Raceway in St.Louis, Missouri. Both cars are no strangers to sub 8 second times, but one of them is consistently in the 6s. Read on to find out which one.

The Camaro - Grubb Worm

In the white corner, we have Jonathan Atkin’s 97 gen 4 Camaro. Dubbed the Grubb Worm, it is tuned by Tick Performance which was started back in 03. It’s packing a 329 cubic inch LT1 engine. It has trick flow cylinder heads with 220 cc intake runners, a factory GM LT4 intake manifold, diamond custom pistons, and a Crower billet crank. It’s packing an 88-91 turbo, with the fabrication carried out by Rocksolid Motorsports based in North Carolina.

One of the keys to the ballistic launches is an 8” slipper clutch. Suspension-wise, there are Afco Coilovers at all four corners. This thing runs on Methanol. The engine management system is a Holley Sourced unit that has been tuned by Jonathan himself. The result? The Grubb Worm produces 1300 horsepower and with a boost up to 39 pounds, it can manage anywhere between 1400 & 1450 horsepower that it put to the ground via 275 section drag radials.

The Supra - Orange Man Bad

In the orange corner, we have Joel Grannas’ 94 Supra. Dubbed the Orange Man Bad, it has been heavily modified by Grannes Performance. This Supra was originally an automatic and was converted by the guys at Grannas into a 25 3 Chassis race car. With bespoke carbon body panes, it is the world record holder for an H Pattern Stick shift car, demolishing the quarter-mile in 6.84 seconds at 213 mph.

The engine on this monster Supra is a 2JZ with a Billet Block from down under. It has a BC crank, and diamond pistons. There is a pro mod 102 mm turbo with a 7-inch air-to-air intercooler. The engine is mated to a T-56 magnum transmission from Tremec. As with the Grubb Worm, the Orange Mad Bad also runs on Methanol and produces 2100 horsepower which is sent to the tarmac through 28x10.5 drag radials.

The Show-Down

With all those specs out of the way. Let’s get down to business. First, both these fire-breathing monsters get a decent burnout to warm up those radials. Burnout complete. Let’s race. The lights go out and the Camaro gets off to a great start, but by the time the cars make it to the line, the Supra was ahead doing the quarter-mile in 6.97 seconds at 211.89 mph while the Camaro took 7.35 seconds at 197.83 mph.
