The 2021 Auto Shanghai revealed many interesting studies, among which the Ford EVOS. There has been a steadily increasing trend of sedan models, becoming crossovers and SUVs. Although the EVOS looks like a blend of a station wagon and an SUV, it is believed that this will be the next Ford Fusion (in the US) and Ford Mondeo (Europe). The EVOS is the first Ford product, largely developed by the brand’s team in China.

Production will initially start in China, by the Changan Ford joint venture. The five-door “fastback” design is sure to attract customers. The front fascia is reminiscent of the Ford Equator SUV – another China-focused model, recently launched. In some ways, the design is similar to the Mustang Mach-E and the, like it, the EVOS even features pop-out door handles.

Actually, this isn’t the first time Ford has used the name EVOS for their concept. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, they unveiled a different EVOS concept. Many of its design elements transitioned into cars like the back-then new Ford Fusion/Mondeo and established the brand’s design, which we are already familiar with. This further indicates that the EVOS will probably be the next Fusion/Mondeo.

Just like the 2011 EVOS concept, the new one can be showcasing the brand’s new design language. Essentially, the entire dashboard of the EVOS is a screen. The instrument cluster itself is the now common 12.3-inch size. That is joined by a 4K-resolution 27-inch infotainment screen. Both are housed behind a single glass piece.

The infotainment software is running on Ford’s localized SYNC 2.0 with Baidu’s AI tech and what is referred to as a virtual assistant. Similar software is used in Mach E and F-150. In the same way, EVOS will feature over-the-air updates.

Performance specs are still a mystery, but the EVOS is expected to be a global model with a hybrid powertrain. We are expecting more details soon.
