It must have been taken with the cheapest pocket cam China Sells, but it looks legit

These days, it seems like there isn’t an automaker out there that can debut a new car without someone spilling the beans ahead of time. This time around, it appears as if someone has managed to snag a shot of the 2020 Chevy C8 Corvette’s rear end. The image is low-resolution, but there’s little doubt that we’re looking at the real deal here. If it’s not legitimate, someone has done a good job at creating a very authentic-looking fake.

2020 Chevy C8 Corvette Leaked Image

This probably won’t be the last leak of the C8 Corvette that we’ll see, but it’s certainly the first. Everyone who’s seen it comes to an agreement that this image is of the C8’s rear end. The resemblance of the car in the leaked image and in our spy shots (see our comparative image below) is uncanny.

As we mentioned when we first started seeing spy shots of the new Vette, the rear end – well, the face of the rear end – won’t be a huge departure from that of the C7.

It’s a bit more aggressive and does have that supercar look to it, but oval, it’s definitely Vette-like.

I can’t help but point out that the vent in each corner appears to be fake, and I really hope that’s not going to be the case. If so, that will be worse than what Honda did with the Civic Type R. For that, however, we’ll just have to wait and see. The full-width spoiler is a little dramatic, but it does look good here – it’s not too tall, and it’s not too gaudy. It’s also the same unit that we’ve seen on test mules so, if this picture isn’t real, someone is pretty proficient at making low-resolution but realistic fakes. The rear quarter panels are also quite bulgy, and the rear quarter glass looks skinny and long. This could just be a weird trick on our eyes, but perhaps there’s a little more to it that we know. There was a lot of camo along the rear pillars on test mules, so we have no real frame of reference to go on here. You should also keep in mind that the car probably doesn’t have such a low roofline – there’s likely a weird camera effect going on here that makes things a little disproportionate.

This photo makes the car looked excessively short and really wide.

It will be both, but not to the extreme it appears to be here.

On a performance front, there’s no word as to just how much grunt the C8 Corvette will have, but this will be a true-to-life American supercar. We’re expecting at least 850 horsepower and nearly as much torque but, if things go the way we think they will, GM has a 1000-horsepower hybrid drivetrain in the works too. The latter will probably come after the “entry” C8 makes its debut, probably sometime in mid-2021, if we’re lucky.

2020 Chevy C8 Corvette Expected Specifications
Engine Twin-Turbo V-8
Horsepower 850-1000 HP
Torque As much as 1000 lb-ft
Electric Assistance Yes; Hybrid Possible
Driveline RWD
Estimated Top Speed Up to 220 mph
0-to-60 MPH <3 Seconds
The sprint to 60 mph will take less than 3 seconds, and top speed could eclipse the 220-mph mark – a figure that should make it the fastest road-going production car from Chevy if memory serves us correctly.

The C8 will be RWD by default, but the hybrid model could offer up an easy solution for AWD to be implemented as well.

We’ll be at the C8’s big debut on July 18 in Orange Country, Florida and are watching closely for anything that might happen between now and then, so stick with us and we’ll keep you up to date and prepared for the big day.
