The good folks at ‘Carwow’ hit the drag strip for yet another drag race, this time involving two supercars that have a loyal fan following of their own. On one side, there was the Ferrari 812 Superfast, and on the other, the McLaren 600LT. The former features a naturally aspirated V-12, whereas the latter comes with a twin-turbo V-8. Both the cars feature seven-speed dual-clutch gearboxes and rear-wheel-drive systems. The Ferrari, obviously, makes more power, but it is nearly 1,000 pounds heavier than the Brit. This makes up for an exciting series of races. Which car are you rooting for?

What Are We Looking At?

It is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that drives the rear wheels exclusively.

Here, too, you get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that powers the rear wheels. Both the cars also get a launch control.

The McLaren weighs just 2,989 pounds, almost 1,000 pounds lighter than the 3,968-pound Ferrari.

The Races Were Mighty Close

Since the McLaren is significantly lighter, it was able to get a better start off the line. The Ferrari’s 200-extra horses soon started to come into play, but not soon enough to let it get past the McLaren and win the race. Instead, all it could do was come quite close to its British rival, but not get past it. The 812 Superfast lost just by the nose, making this a lot more intriguing than it had to be.

They raced again to see if the Ferrari could score a win here. A much better launch by the Italian supercar ensured that the McLaren couldn’t sneak a win this time around. The Ferrari was quicker right out of the box and kept inching forward to win the race by a decent margin.

The tides were turned yet again in the third race, this time, the McLaren getting a fantastic launch. The Ferrari was lagging behind from the beginning and there was no way it could catch up with it. So, it had to go down 1-2 in the drag races. The McLaren completed this race in 10.7 seconds, whereas the Ferrari took 11.1 seconds to touch the finish line.

After pocketing the drag races, the McLaren challenged the Ferrari to a couple of roll races. The first of them was from 50 mph with the cars in their least sporty settings and the gearbox in automatic mode. The Brit took this a little too seriously and could barely match the Ferrari’s sprint. It stayed behind the eight ball the whole time. But, this race clearly belonged to the much more powerful Ferrari 812 Superfast.

They raced once more from 50 mph, this time with the cars in their sportiest settings and manual mode for the gearbox. As expected, the Ferrari was quicker this time around as well, taking the lead right at kickdown and maintaining it that way till the finish line. This wasn’t a slow race by any means as the McLaren touched speeds of close to 180 mph by the end of the mile.

The final round was the brake test from 100 mph. Both the cars were shedding speeds at almost the same rate, but when it was time to come to a complete halt, the 600LT took a little more distance compared to the 812. So, that means the McLaren won the drag races 2-1, the Ferrari won the roll races 2-0, and the brake test also belonged to the Italian.
