• This McLaren 765LT Can Run The Quarter-Mile in 8.9 Seconds!

This is the fastest A Mclaren 765LT has ever ran the quarter-mile.

It’s safe to say that we are spoiled for horsepower. About 20 years ago 500 horsepower was considered a very respectable figure for a supercar. Nowadays, people laugh at the notion of a 500-horsepower car that has any supercar claims. This is why supercars with over 700 horsepower have become a rather common sight. This also means that we get some pretty mental stuff on four wheels, like this McLaren 765 LT.

The McLaren 765 LT is a pretty fast car out the box but apparently, someone decided it can be even quicker. We don’t disapprove, especially given the results. The 765LT is based on the 720S. In fact, you can think of it as a 720S turned up to 11. Stock, the 765 LT produces 765 horsepower (563 kW) and 590 pound-feet (800 Nm) from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 mounted behind the driver.

That said, before getting the upgrades, the McLaren you’ll see below was dyno-ed in stock form. The graph showed a peak power of 748 horsepower at the wheels, which after calculating for drivetrain loss, means that a stock 765 makes even more than the advertised figure. Regardless, the stock car is good for a 2.8-second sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) and a quarter-mile time of 9.9 seconds at over 146 mph (235 km/h).

McLaren 765LT specifications
Engine 4.0-Liter V-8
Horsepower 765 HP
Torque 590 LB-FT
0 to 62 mph 2.8 seconds
Quarter mile 9.9 seconds
Quarter mile speed 146 mph

The same car that made 748 wheel-horsepower on the dyno has since gotten a few minor tweaks.

The specialists from M-Engineering threw in a downpipe and a custom tune, bringing the power up to 827 horsepower at the wheels.

That’s not all. There are a few different maps, which you can switch between from the cruise control stalk. One of them is specifically meant for race gas, in which case power goes up to 894 horsepower at the wheels.

This allows the 765LT to hit 60 mph (97 km/h) in, get this, 1.8 seconds, on its way to an 8.9-second quarter-mile time at almost 158 mph (255 km/h)… with an almost completely stock car. To put things in perspective, the 2003 Bugatti Veyron with 1,001 horsepower covers the quarter-mile in 10.0 seconds. You can see the results as well as learn more about the modified McLaren in the video.

After high school I earned a master’s degree in marketing and a Master of Arts in Media and Communications. Over the years, I’ve practiced and become skilled in precision driving and to date have test driven more than 250 cars across the globe. Over the years, I’ve picked up basic mechanical knowledge and have even taken part in the restoration of a 1964 Jaguar E-Type and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint. Lately, I’ve taken a fancy to automotive photography, and while modern cars are my primary passion, I also have a love for Asian Martial Arts, swimming, war history, craft beer, historical weapons, and car restoration. In time, I plan my own classic car restoration and hope to earn my racing certificate, after which I expect to establish my own racing team.  Read full bio
