A bespoke hypercar with 824 ponies in its pocket is up for sale

LISTEN 02:58

If you thought that the Senna looked boring to the core, you might want to look at the McLaren Special Operation team’s most bizarre-looking hypercar based on the Senna. Meet the Sabre, a McLaren special edition hypercar limited to 15 examples, all of which were sold in the U.S. market. Not only was this car built painstakingly by MSO, but it’s also the fastest non-hybrid McLaren car ever made. This car is the 11th of the 15 examples and is up for auction during Mecum’s Monterey auction from August 18–20, 2022.

The McLaren Sabre is a hypercar with the craziest design

Being a super rare McLaren, the Sabre is easily distinguishable from the Senna. It is finished in Liquid Argentum paint, with gloss Visual Carbon Fiber (VCF) accents and Liquid Papaya pinstripes. Other notable exterior features include blacked-out diamond-cut seven-spoke wheels with Liquid Argentum center-lock nuts. In addition, orange brake calipers with a black-accented McLaren logo have been fitted.

Unlike the striking exterior, the interior is not very different from other McLaren supercars, with a few exceptions. For instance, the driver’s seat is finished in Volcano Orange, while the passenger-side seat is done in Carbon Black. In addition, the headrests have the MSO logo embroidered, and the Liquid Papaya pinstriped seat shells look beautiful. The interior also features Visual satin carbon fiber interior accents, brushed Azores air vent bezels, paddle shifters, a central display bezel, and a door strut and release.

The Sabre brings uncompromised performance to the table

The McLaren Sabre is like no other supercar built by the brand. It is powered by the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 from the Senna but puts out 824 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. In addition, the engine is mated to a seven-speed DCT and drives the rear wheels only. As a result, this exclusive McLaren beast can attain 218 mph top speed if let loose.

According to Car and Driver, “the response from this version of McLaren’s V-8 is mind-altering, the first dip into full throttle rearranging scenery quicker than the mind can process. The Sabre is so fast, so visceral, that there are moments when your right foot will question whether full throttle is what your brain really wants.” So you can have a more significant idea about how the McLaren Sabre is an absolute beast regarding acceleration.

Given the Sabre’s ultra-exclusive nature, it has not been driven more than 100 miles. When it crosses the auction block, it is estimated to go for around $4,500,000 to $5,000,000.
