Porsche produced the 930 Turbo from 1974 to 1989. Initially it was offered only as a coupe, and in the last two years of development Porsche also produced Targa and Cabriolet versions. The 930 was the first production sports car with a built-in turbocharger and was the fastest production car available in Germany. There's currently a modified 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo up for grabs on Bring A Trailer, and it could be your only chance to land a very cool sports car. The current bid is $197,935, but it could go a lot higher before the digital hammer drops.

A Heavily Modified Porsche 930 Turbo

This specific unit was sold in Munich, Germany in October 1978, and was modified in 1980 with DP Motorsport 935 I bodywork. Exterior changes include flat-nose front body panels, revised front and rear spoilers and bumpers, modified side skirts, vented quarter panels, and flared fenders. The car is finished in Guards Red with Orange and Black graphics. It rides on a special set of 15-inch Fuchs-style wheels finished in gold with satin-finished lips and wrapped in Yokohama tires. The wheels hide some Porsche-branded calipers over cross-drilled rotors.

For the interior, this modified 930 Turbo offers fixed-back bucket seat wrapped in black leather with tartan inserts. There is also a leather-wrapped Momo Prototipo steering wheel, a speedometer that shows 300 km/h, and a six-digit odometer that indicates 55,000 kilometers. Additional features include a Blaupunkt Bamberg cassette stereo , a Matter roll bar, a fire extinguisher, and a boost control knob mounted aft of the shifter.

A Humble Engine Tune

The 1979 930 Turbo was offered with a 3.0-liter flat-six engine that delivered a total of 256 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The 3.3-liter version was introduced later in 1984. This modified 930 Turbo received a RUF-modified turbocharged 3.3-liter flat-six engine. Changes also include a RUF intercooler, a RUF-sourced turbocharger, airbox, intercooler, and a modified ECU. As a result, the engine delivers a total of 300 horsepower and sends its power to rear wheels through a RUF five-speed manual transaxle and a limited-slip differential. The changes also include an updated suspension with Bilstein dampers.
