The future is going to be interesting for the Mini Cooper. Before going all-electric in 2030, Mini decided that the next generation Cooper will be both: there will be a gasoline-powered version built in Oxford, UK and an electric version built in China. While the official debut of the Cooper EV is still months away, Mini USA launched the one-off Cooper SE Convertible - the world’s only premium convertible with a fully electric drivetrain in the small car segment. The model combines "classic sportiness, maximum open-top driving fun and locally emission-free electric mobility for the first time."

So, why is Mini showing off this electrified Cooper S Convertible? Because it looks like the market is asking for one. In 2021, the Cooper SE saw a sales increase of 132% - being the pulse generator for the brand. In fact, in Germany, almost every third Mini is already electrified. The company is investing big in its future electric and plans to offer more than 250,000 charging points - one of the largest public charging networks in Europe.

This unique model is powered by an electric motor that delivers a total of 184 horsepower. It can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 7.7 seconds and offers a range of 230 kilometers (143 miles)- based on WLTP test cycle.

The Cooper SE Convertible was built on the body of the Cooper S Convertible with which it also shares its dimensions. Built on a wheelbase of 2,495 mm (98.22 inches), the model has a length of 3,863 mm (152.08 inches) in length, a width of 1,727 mm (68 inches), and a height of 2,495 mm (98.22 inches). You can also carry around 5.65 cubic-feet of luggage. It is also equipped with a quiet textile soft top that can be opened and closed within 18 seconds and at speeds up to 30 km/h. It comes with three different settings: open, closed, or as a sunroof.

Unfortunately, the model will never be put into production. But it will be shown to the public for the first time at the traditional community event "Mini Takes the States," set to take place in July 2022. The model will be driven on the winding roads between Burlington in Vermont and Greenville-Spartanburg in South Carolina. And while we have to admit we are not very big fans of the electric Mini, this one-off Cooper SE Convertible seems to have the perfect vibe for a summer-driving go-kart experience.
