This Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R is proof that old-school GT-Rs aren’t entirely out of reach

The Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R is considered the peak of Japanese 1990s engineering. It’s also one of the main stars of one of the most influential movie franchises – Fast and Furious. The JDM legend has made a few appearances in the F&F movies, driven by Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner, and since has obtained legendary status. Unfortunately, the GT-R’s screen appearances and its glorious history have contributed to some limited-edition R34 GT-Rs reaching $500,000. However, while those numbers are eye-watering, you can still find a regular R34 GT-R like the one here, listed for “just” $58,000.

We stumbled upon what can be described as a very clean, relatively low-mileage Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, at the JDM-expo.com website, which currently has hundreds of listings for GT-Rs of various generations, from C10 to R35. This white example stood out with its asking price of $58,000. To put things in perspective, in 1999, an R34 GT-R cost $45,000, which in January 2022, equates to $75,300.

The example with chassis number BNR34-006741 is a base-model Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, but still has all the GT-R attributes, like the RB26 DETT, ATTESA E-TS all-wheel drive, and more. This is not a V Spec or an M Spec, as those start from $180,000 for a low-mileage example, with some breaking the $500,000 barrier.

This example of the Nissan R34 GT-R is finished in white (paint color QM1) and has 103,250 km (64 156 miles) on the odometer. The car has had a major service on 23 March 2017, which includes replacing the timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs, at an official Nissan dealer. Back then, the car was showing 100,340 km (62,348 miles) on the odometer.

The car is mostly stock, but features a couple of tasteful upgrades. Among them are many NISMO goodies such as a full NISMO aero kit, including a front aero bumper, side skirts, rear under-spoiler set, carbon pillar garnish, and a GT shift knob. Other NISMO components include a lightweight flywheel, sports clutch and clutch cover, and more.

Other upgrades include BBS wheels, V spec front splitter, Recaro driver seat, FUJITSUBO (Super Ti) muffler, REIMAX front pipe, ENDLESS goodies (not specified what), ZEAL adjustable suspension kit, ARC radiator cover, and aftermarket taillights.

The listing advertises the car as rust-free and without any issues. It also comes with extensive service records and verified mileage. The last paragraph of the listing also suggests that the price is negotiable so if you still have an itch for a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, it might be worth giving it a look, while the regular R34 GT-R’s are still relatively afordable.

Born in 1992, I come from a family of motoring enthusiasts. My passion for cars was awoken at the age of six, when I saw a Lamborghini Diablo SV in a magazine. After high school I earned a master’s degree in marketing and a Master of Arts in Media and Communications. Over the years, I’ve practiced and become skilled in precision driving and to date have test driven more than 250 cars across the globe. Over the years, I’ve picked up basic mechanical knowledge and have even taken part in the restoration of a 1964 Jaguar E-Type and an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint. Lately, I’ve taken a fancy to automotive photography, and while modern cars are my primary passion, I also have a love for Asian Martial Arts, swimming, war history, craft beer, historical weapons, and car restoration. In time, I plan my own classic car restoration and hope to earn my racing certificate, after which I expect to establish my own racing team.  Read full bio
