This Rendering of a 2020 Mercedes GLE Coupe Has Us Itching For The Real Thing
Most Intimidating SUC Isn’t That Intimidating Anymoreby Safet Satara, on
Coming from the rendering bakery of X-Tomi design, the latest 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe looks the business. If I didn’t know better, I would definitely think that this is the real deal - the new GLE Coupe. X-Tomi did a nice job, but it seems, not a comprehensive one. The photography of the new GLE Coupe he chose to retouch needed only a small portion of the rear end of the car transferred into the shape of a coupe. Ok, I say “only,” but I am sure, I would not be able to do it right in a month. So, kudos to X-Tomi. Yet, the GLE Coupe is a prospect in the near future of Mercedes-Benz. Personally, I hope it will not have that shouty nature of its predecessor.
The new Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe Surfaces in a World Full Of Coupe SUVs
Inventing new vehicle niches is something Mercedes-Benz does really well.
The company has invented supercars, coupe-looking saloons, and business sedans. Heck, it was actually Mercedes-Benz who started it all.
Benz invented the car. But the new GLE Coupe, despite its arrogant look, will have the toughest time ever in its quest for customers.
You know why?
Here are a couple of reasons:
- The X6!
- The Q8!
- The Range Rover Sport! (admit it, people of similar profiles are after the RR Sport and the GLE Coupe)
The new car, however, will try to soften the arrogant attitude of its predecessor by employing all the stylistic cues of the latest GLE. That basically means that the GLE Coupe could get a tad bigger, but the front end would be a bit more inviting. A bit more friendly, if you like, without all those massive vents and intimidating stature. I know that sells today, but I feel like Mercedes somehow overdid it the last time.
Now, the rendering X-Tomi imagined does not actually show the back of the car, nor does it reveal the shape of the taillights. If I had to guess, the taillights on the GLE SUV could very easily end up at the rear end of the GLE Coupe. They aren’t massive, but are horizontal and support all the imaginable LED gizmos. However, spy photos taken in Germany reveal the car will take rear lights with a different graphic.
Did X-Tomi Design It Right?
While X-Tomi's rendering is probably close to the real deal, I am convinced that the SUV will receive a somewhat different glass portion behind the rear doors.
That portion should be different to the car X-Tomi rendered.
I looked at the photographs and the videos of the prototypes, and the first thing that struck me is that the rear side of the car may be fundamentally different to what we’ve known about the GLE Coupe up to this point. In short, the car may have even less than before with the glass surfaces behind the rear doors actually getting smaller.
Although the car has not been unveiled yet, I can confidently say that the GLE Coupe will be powered by the same engines found in the GLE SUV.
A 3.0-liter, turbocharged engine is a must. A mild-hybrid system is in the books as well. The AMG versions should be plentiful, and I expect at least three - AMG GLE 53 Coupe, AMG GLE 63 Coupe, and AMG GLE 63S Coupe. All this with power ranging from 420ish horsepower to 600+ horsepower. Regardless of the design, the engines, or the sheer insanity of such a car, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe will probably debut sometime next year. The second half of it probably.
