The U.S. has Singer, the U.K. has Theon

Air-cooled 911s are held in remarkably high regard by Porschephiles and car nuts alike. In fact, they’ve established god-like status over the years, with some of that popularity coming from the work of Singer Vehicle Design. Fine examples include the 2017 Porsche 911 by Singer or the 2021 911 DLS. Few people know that the U.K. has a similar Porsche-centric restomodding firm that produces equally-amazing pieces of art on wheels.

Meet Theon Design. Their latest work is called HK002 because it was commissioned by a client in Hong Kong. The 002 stands there to mark that this is Theon Design’s second project going to Hong Kong.

The donor car is a 964-era Porsche 911 which was stripped down entirely as Theon needed to fix the existing damage. Once that was done, the company proceeded to fit its own bits and bobs to the car, including a longer hood and wider fenders. Oh, and the side mirrors are electrically-adjustable and inspired by the Porsche 991 Speedster concept of 2018.

In fact, this sort of mixing and matching is the core ethos of Theon Design. “It’s all about combining the best of the classic looks and modern drivability to create a machine that is not only unique, but performs beyond all expectations,” says Theon Design’s Adam Hawley.

We don’t know what sort of engine motivates the HK002, but we know that Theon Design offers a choice of powerplant varying from a 3.6-liter flat-six with 295 horsepower to a 4.0-liter unit good for 400 horsepower.

Supercharging and turbocharging are also possible at the customer’s request. Power goes to the rear wheels through either a five-speed or a six-speed Getrag G50 gearbox.

All donor cars are 1989-1994 Porsche 911 964s that are either already owned by customers or sourced with the help of Theon Design’s specialists. For the HK002, Theon Design’s team worked for 18 months. So, you can imagine that the price tag is on the hefty side, with this example starting at around $415,000.

Tudor’s first encounter with cars took place when he was only a child. Back then, his father brought home a Trabant 601 Kombi and a few years later, a Wartburg 353. At that time, he was too young to know how they worked and way too young to drive them, but he could see one thing – each of them had a different ethos and their own unique personality. As time went on, he started seeing that in other cars as well, and his love for the automobile was born.  Read full bio
