This Tesla Model 3 Is Hell-Bent On Embarrassing The Lamborghini Urus, And It Almost Succeeds!

The Urus just about managed to save its skin against the Model 3 Performance in the drag race

A drag race between an internal combustion engine car and an EV is always special, considering that the latter is the future. But folks from Carwow have wowed us with a great drag race video between the Tesla Model 3 Performance and the Lamborghini Urus, which was once the fastest SUV. We all know that electric power is instant and lag-free, and the Model 3 Performance proves that. But there is a full-fledged performance SUV from the house of Lamborghini sitting right next to it. On paper, the Urus is a lot more powerful than the Model 3, but it is heavier, and Lamborghinis sometimes struggle to launch due to traction issues. Will the Model 3 defeat the Urus, or something obvious will happen? Keep reading for the result.

Contender 1:
This is the Lamborghini Urus. It’s 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 puts out 650 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. It drives all-four wheels via an eight-speed DCT.

Let’s start with the Lamborghini, which is owned by Yianni from the YouTube channel Yiannimize. Underneath the hood is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8, which has come straight-up from the RS Q8, but makes more power; 650 horsepower and 627 lb-ft of torque. It drives all four wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The curb weight is unlike other Lamborghinis because of its stature, so you are looking at 4,844 pounds.

Contender 2
This is the Tesla Model 3 Performance, with dual motors. The combined power output is 490 hp and 487 lb-ft of torque. It drives all-four wheels.

The Model 3 Performance, on the other hand, does not match the powers of the Urus from its dual electric motors. The total power output is rated at 490 horsepower and 487 pound-feet of twist. Since it is a dual-electric motor variant, the all-wheel-drive system is standard. For a sedan, the Model 3 weighs a bit more because of the 75-kWh battery pack under the floor. But, the curb weight is lower than the Urus, at 4,079 pounds.

The team at ’Carwow’ staged a race between the Lamborghini Urus and the Tesla Model 3 Performance

From the get-go, the Model 3, with its electric power, launched amazingly well, while the Urus struggled for traction. But the gap quickly shortens between the two when the Urus crosses the Model 3 to reach the quarter-mile mark first. Surprisingly, both the cars clocked a quarter-mile timing of 11.8 seconds, but the replay shows that the Urus is a tad bit ahead of the Model 3 to complete the race.

Next, we have the rolling races, where the Model 3 and the Urus start from 50 miles per hour. The Urus is set to manual gear changes in Corsa mode, the Model 3 has no gearbox, which gives it the advantage to pick up speed faster. The race begins and the Model 3 takes the lead again, but the Urus trounces it within a few seconds. The Urus is such a beast, and being an SUV doesn’t really make it slow. The next rolling race commences with both cars at 30 miles per hour and the Urus is set to automatic gear changes. As expected, the Model 3 oozes ahead and maintains a good distance from the Urus for a second or so, until the Urus starts gaining speed and beats the Model 3. This proves that kickdown from electric cars is instant when compared to their ICE counterparts.

The Result
Both the Urus and the Model 3 complete the standing quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds, but as you can see, the Urus crosses the line first.

Following up is a brake test from 100 miles per hour, and both the cars flat-foot the brake pedal once they reach the line. The Model 3 wins the test, but the Urus is not far ahead. The Model 3 comes to a complete stop before the Urus, but the difference is about a couple of inches. So, the Urus is the clear winner in the drag race, and the rolling races, but the Model 3 Performance wins the brake test.
