In times when modern cars become more tech-heavy, complex, and synthetic, there are those among us that appreciate the simplicity that older automobiles provide. Moreover, if you are someone with a DIY inclination, wrenching on a car brings you joy, and this is exactly what we see from Dingel-DIY. The YouTuber shows us, in detail, how an old, beat-up Toyota Corolla, destined for the scrapyard, can be brought back to its former glory.

The process starts with the purchase of two E90 series Corollas – one pre-facelift sedan and a facelift liftback. The latter is, apparently, the donor car since all good parts have been stripped away from it, leaving only a shell. Of the two cars, the sedan is getting a second chance of being drivable. It’s a classic case of making one car out of two, and it all starts with yanking out the engines from both cars and seeing what’s usable. The sedan version, in particular, seems to have the 4A-GE “Red Top”, which is rated at 128 horsepower at 7,200 RPM and 105 pound-feet (142 Nm) at 4,800 RPM, for non-US markets.

The car gets a complete engine overhaul, a refurbished interior, and a new exterior color. They say you can’t keep a good car down and this Corolla is the definition of a good car. Maybe not in terms of performance, but definitely in terms of dependability and the level of simplicity allowing you to work on it yourself. But don’t take our word for it, check out the video below to see it brought back to life, in this detailed time lapse video.
