With car prices only going up and modern cars being more artificial than their older counterparts, finding a car that is a real treat for car enthusiasts and at a reasonable price is becoming increasingly difficult. However, we are happy to report that there is still hope for us enthusiasts who are looking for a good deal, and this 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser is as quirky as it is dependable. Moreover, it is a modern classic, inspired by the original Land Cruiser FJ40, so prices are only going to go up.

When it comes to modern classics from Toyota, you probably think of the SW20 MR2 or the A80 Supra, both of which already cost a pretty penny (especially the Supra). Not many think of a rugged SUV unless we count the Land Cruiser 80, 90, and 100 Series. The FJ Cruiser shares the platform with the Prado, but the retro-futuristic styling is a modern interpretation of the 1960 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, which is already an appreciating classic.

This particular, 2012 example is being sold by a dealer called FDM Rides, based in Denver, Colorado. The car is advertised as a low-mileage example, with 33,800 miles (approx. 54,400 km) on the odometer. There is also a CarFax attached, which shows no accidents or odometer manipulations. The FJ Cruiser was highly-spec’d with an original sticker price of $34,604 back in 2012.

The car comes equipped with the factory Convenience and Upgrade Packages, skid plates for the engine, transfer case, and fuel tank, water-resistant Dark Charcoal cloth upholstery, Bluetooth connectivity, and much more. The exterior is finished in the factory shade of Iceberg white, which is in good condition and even has a protective film added.

Motivating the retro-futuristic SUV is Toyota’s proven 1GR-FE unit. The 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V-6 engine provides 260 horsepower and 271 pound-feet of torque (370 Nm). The transmission is a five-speed automatic and works with a two-speed transfer case in order to send power to both axles.

At the time of writing this, there are five days left until someone grabs this modern classic of an SUV. As far as 4X4s go, the FJ Cruiser is one of the most recognized and rugged models out there. Prices are expected to go up, so it may be a good idea as an investment opportunity. Moreover, it’s an old-school Toyota 4x4, and these are known to take a lot of punishment. Whether you would like to resell or keep it, the FJ Cruiser is a quirky future classic.
