Before the whole era of the Supra, which dominated the two-door coupe world for decades, Toyota’s first take on the sports car category started with the 2000GT. Only 351 examples were built in partnership with Yamaha, and thanks to BaT, we have one up for auction. This is a unique, super-rare car with a few refurbishments and a clean Arizona title.

This 1967 2000GT is one of the 84 left-hand drive examples and was moved overseas from Switzerland to the United States in 2015. However, this 2000GT has spent most of its lifetime in Switzerland, right after the chassis was imported in 1969. The importer delivered this masterpiece to a dealer in Geneva named Grand Garage des Nations, who then sold it off to its first owner in 1971, after the discontinuation. The car was reportedly purchased later by Toyota Switzerland AG for promotional purposes in the 1980s, before its first reconstruction, which took place in 1993.

The 2000GT was painted in Solar Red by default, and it seems that the exterior paint stayed the same even after several refurbishments. The front has chunky foglights, a pair of pop-up headlights, and a comprehensive intake grille. However, a refurbishment in 2014 claims cosmetic touch-ups, including rust repairs, especially near the A-pillar, and rubber body seal replacements. From the sides, the 2000GT looks similar to a Jaguar E-Type; it's one of the prime competitors. The sides expose the refurbished magnesium alloy 15-inch wheels, wrapped in Avon rubber. However, the braking system has also been changed, including the calipers, discs, brake pads, and master cylinder. A new suspension system is also installed, with new shock absorbers on all four corners.

The 2.0-liter straight-six engine is a tweaked version of the one found under the hood of the Toyota Crown. This one, however, has Yamaha-designed cylinder heads made of aluminum, and Mikuni-Solex carburetors. The engine was rebuilt in 2014 and was put on the dyno for testing. The tests confirm that the engine can put 145 horsepower and 118 pound-feet to the rear wheels. A five-speed manual transmission comes mated to the engine.

The refurbishments in 2014 include black-trimmed dashboard, door panels, and seats. Rosewood-trimmed center console, driver-side dashboard, and a steering wheel are the specialties of the 2000GT’s interior. The odometer reads approximately 1,400 miles, but the mileage under the current owner remains unknown, and so is the actual mileage.
