Tesla is no longer the sole EV carmaker, as more and more companies are churning out high-performance models, powered purely by electricity. The IONIQ 5 is Hyundai’s latest contender and features powertrains ranging from modest 170 to a respectable 325 horsepower. And while the CUV features a hatchback design, an Italian graphic designer has introduced a sedan version of it.

The Italian graphic designer, who goes by the moniker kdesignag has drawn up an interesting proposal for a performance-oriented sedan version called the Hyundai IONIQ 6S. The pixel artist does not hide the fact (because it’s impossible) that the rendering is based on a Mercedes CLA.

With that being said, the designer has kept the IONIQ 5-specific design elements on the side, even down to the wheel design. The only new thing here is the new side skirt, which seems lower than on the IONIQ 5. While the front end still features the thin strip, incorporating the same headlight design, the fascia is now more prominent and has a sharper center point, into which the design elements converge.

More interesting is the lower front fascia, which is basically the CLA 45 AMG. An interesting decision, given that IONIQ aims to be an EV-only brand, under Hyundai’s banner. In addition to aiming to be a separate brand, the IONIQ name will be featured on two more upcoming models. A sedan version called the IONIQ 6 and an SUV called IONIQ 7.

Just like Genesis – Hyundai’s luxury arm, IONIQ aims to be Hyundai’s EV brand, by 2040. As for the rendering, the CLA base does not mean that the IONIQ 6 will be in the same segment. The IONIQ 5 CUV actually has a longer wheelbase than the Tesla Model 3 118.1 inches (3,000 mm) versus 113.2 inches (2,875 mm).

With that said, we expect the IONIQ 6 to, at least, share a platform with the IONIQ 5. However, given the trend for a unified brand design, we think the IONIQ 6 sedan will feature similar styling as the IONIQ 5. We just have to wait for Hyundai to make it.
