Supercars may be able to outrun police cars in Hollywood movies, but in the real world, these exotics are still no match for the radar gun. A trio of Ford GT prototypes found that out the hard way when they were pulled over for speeding in Colorado. According to a report from the Vail Daily, the three supercars were going faster than the 50-mph speed in limit in the area where they were flagged by officers from the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado State Patrol.
The cars were inspected and reportedly contained plenty of data-collecting equipment, which points to the belief that all three cars were in the middle of high-altitude testing when they found themselves in the crosshairs of law enforcement authorities.
It’s unclear if the drivers of the three GT prototypes were ticketed for speeding, but given the reason behind them clocking faster speeds than they should’ve been doing, it wouldn’t be surprising if the drivers were let off on warnings to observe proper road rules, even for testing purposes.
As a refresher, the Ford GT is the Blue Oval’s latest supercar masterpiece. It follows the lineage of the Ford GT40 racers that dominated Le Mans in the 1960’s and the original GT supercar that was launched in 2005 in limited quantities. The new GT is powered by a 3.5 liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 engine that produces more than 600 horsepower, good enough to post a top speed of 205 mph.
Given its capabilities, it is worth wondering how fast those three prototypes were going to catch the attention of Colorado’s law enforcement authorities.

Well, that was embarrassing
Who would’ve thought that three Ford GT prototypes would be caught for speeding by the police? It seems very unlikely, doesn’t it? I mean, who in their right mind would conduct testing of a car that can reach 205 mph and not test the engine’s capabilities from time to time?
Sarcasm aside, I don’t think this does much to the reputation of Ford or the new GT supercar. Even if the GT prototype now has a record with Colorado’s law enforcement authorities, I don’t foresee the car’s popularity to wane because of it. People are still going to want a piece of it and we know that already judging by the incredible demand for the supercar.
So I guess you can chalk this one up to an embarrassing episode that will be talked about for a while and be forgotten just as quickly. It is a little funny to imagine these three exotics meekly pulling over on the side of the road because they incurred the wrath of Johnny Law. Just goes to show that no matter how fast or powerful a car may be, they all slow down when those red and blue flashing lights appear on their rear-view mirrors.
