TopSpeed’s Best of 2010: Crash of the Year

We admit, that when talking about car crashes, we probably shouldn’t have "best of" in the title, but some of the car crashes in 2010 have been unbelievable with the driver getting up and walking away as if they had finished the race instead of stopping short due to a rough and tumble escapade. Of course, some have also been devastating, with the driver not being as lucky.

This year was full of crashes. Toyota chief test driver, Hiromu Naruse, was killed in a Nurburgring accident while driving a Lexus LF-A, Heikki Kovalainen crashed into a Audi R8 LMS at the Race of Champions, and Mark Webber had a pretty serious accident in Valencia. The list goes on and on, with a number of supercar crashes at the hands of amateurs out for a good time.

We just didn’t feel right choosing the "best of" crash where somebody was seriously, or even fatally, hurt, so we opted to choose the crash based on the survival of the driver. This limits our choices a bit. In the end, what we were left with was the Mark Webber crash at Valencia (GP Europe 2010).

Going loop-de-loop in a race car going 186mph and casually discussing the accident just a few days later is good luck at its best. And that is why Mark Webber’s brush with death was our pick for crash of the year.

Yeah, I don’t think that this is proper. It would be better to make a list on how to prevent this fatal accident than listing down the most tragic and a lot were hurt!

Best Crashed of the Year? This sounds so immature! I don’t think that its right to make a list of accident and destroyed vehicles where somebody was hurt. I though they are going to mention the tragedy in Le Mans.

TopSpeed considered this as a funny thing because they ranked it. I don’t want to misinterpret them but it some kind of offensive for the person who made that accident and able to watch this video.

hmm. I think crashes are serious things, and I don’t think that it would be good if there is actually a category for the best one.

yeah, the fatal crash of Lexus and BMW , this news is so shocking. Well, Accident do happen I think we should learn from the mistake we had before. Test Driving should be more safety starting now.

I agree with you, this one is probably the most heart stopping crash for last year. When I saw this one, I was like stunned for a few seconds.

that was a high flying one. good thing that mark webber did survive and got only a minor injury.

good thing that mark webber survive that crash. there are only few who survive on that kind of crash.. he may be lucky this time.

Let’s hope this year you will not have the crashes to pick up from for this top! Happy New Year!

agree with you dude, good thing that a simple mechanical device like neck brace can save or can help a lot to survive that kind of crash today.

wow what the heck happened to mark webber? I must say that he was lucky to have all the safety features he needed to survive that crash. but when this crash happened to the 70-80’ for sure webber is KIA.
