After the change in the top management, the Volkswagen company kept its plans for a hybrid line-up. But, if the old CEO wanted hybrid versions of the Golf, Jetta and Touran and a hybrid Jetta in California by 2008, the new CEO wants the Touareg to be the first Volkswagen hybrid model.

Volkswagen said that the additional price for a hybrid drive system to a vehicle like Golf or Jetta is at least 2000 euro. And this models won’t have any impact on the the price-sensitive compact segment because cheap diesel vehicles already offer equal economy and emissions levels.

Now, Volkswagen is working on a hybrid version for the Touareg SUV. This new model should be available on the markets by the end of 2008. Together with the Touareg, Porsche is working on a ybrid version for the new Cayenne. Both models will be based on the PL 71 platform and will feature an all-wheel transmission engine and purely electrical driving mode.
