We already know that Toyota will be unveiling an all-electric version of the RAV4 and a plug-in Prius in 2012, but Toyota isn’t done with their announcements just yet. The Japanese company says it will also be introducing six new gasoline-electric hybrid models globally by the end of 2012.

The electricRAV4 will be developed in cooperation with Tesla. The decision has been made in order to take advantage of Tesla’s better battery technology that uses many small cells of lithium-ion batteries similar to those in a laptop computer, but also in order to learn from Tesla how to develop products faster.

And after testing the technology, Toyota will bring new vehicles based on the proven technology of mating a battery pack with a gas engine. Of the six new gas-electric hybrids it plans to introduce in the next 28 months, three will be only hybrids and three will be hybrid versions of models that will also be sold with gas-only engines.
