As part of its 70th-anniversary celebration, Land Rover is going back to its roots with the introduction of a two-door SUV called the Range Rover SV Coupe. The special edition Range Rover pays tribute to the original two-door Range Rover that made its debut in 1970 and lasted until 1996. 22 years after the last two-door Range exited the stage, the Range Rover SV Coupe is arriving to celebrate the model’s incredible 26-year run and the automaker’s platinum jubilee.

Details about the Range Rover SV Coupe are slim pickings at the moment, but Land Rover was nice enough to show a shot of the SUV’s interior. At first glance, the interior looks like a standard Range Rover interior, but upon closer examination, there are some notable luxury additions to the cabin of the SV Coupe. The special edition SUV has a cleaner look to it than the regular Range Rover. The infotainment screen is also different as the SV Coupe appears to have the same screen like the one found in the Velar. The most notable component, though, is the full-size center console that runs all the way to the rear of the cabin. The console itself is dressed in luxurious wood trim. The seats are the same as the ones found in the standard Range Rover. The automaker did dress it up differently with the rear sets getting a contrast blue color to the white seats in the front. It’s hard to see how much legroom the SV Coupe has from the angle of the photo, but even in its two-door configuration, there should still be enough legroom in there.

The body of the Range Rover SV Coupe is a different matter. Land Rover hasn’t released photos of that section of the SUV, but recent spy shots of a shorter-than-usual Range Rover doing test runs in heavy camouflage points to that model being the SV Coupe. The front doors of that test mule were also noticeably longer than the ones on the standard Range Rover. The mule also showed that the SV Coupe isn’t being styled in the same low-slung, rakish manner that gave birth to the term coupe-SUV. The proportions of the SV Coupe carry some similarities to the OG two-door unit, right down to the end, which is a lot more upright than most of today’s so-called “coupe-SUVs.”

There are still plenty of details about the Range Rover SV Coupe that Land Rover’s keeping close to its chest. Don’t expect the automaker to just hand over the full spec sheet so, in the meantime, we have to take the word of Land Rover’s chief design officer, Gerry McGovern, who called the special edition model a “highly compelling design with peerless refinement and uncompromised sophistication.”

“This is a vehicle that will resonate on an emotional level,” he added.

Only 999 units of the Range Rover SV Coupe will be built. No other details have been announced but seeing as it’s still a Range Rover, expect it to carry a sports suspension system and a 5.0-liter supercharged V-8 engine. Other than that, the only thing that’s clear about the special edition model is that it’s headed to the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.
