Gymkhana Takeover featuring Travis Pastrana is coming soon and to build up some hype, the Hoonigans just dropped a video showcasing the rad Subaru WRX STI that's going to burn rubber for our delight.

It turns out, however, that the video encapsulates a teaser for the upcoming Gymkhana installment. We won't be complaining, though, as this is likely the very best dose of goodness to kick off the week.

Let's get something out of the way first: no Gymkhana car built and hooned so far has been of the mild ilk. From the Hoonicorn to the Fiesta RX, Focus RX, and Hoonitruck, we're talking about violent-design, rubber-burning beats built and designed to entertain. Obviously, the same was expected from Travis Pastrana's WRX STI and on this note, we're glad to report that it fits the Gymkhana bill perfectly.

The latest Gymkhana-ready Subaru WRX STI was developed by Subaru Motorsports USA with the input of Vermont Sportscar. And boy, they didn't hold back, not one tiny bit. Other than the flashy livery, wheels, rear wing, and exhaust pipes coming out of the hood, there's more than meets the eye.

Surprisingly, the car as a lot of Subaru in it, because it's based on a factory chassis: the A-pillars and the B-pillars are unchanged, just like the taillights and the doors, but the wheelbase is slightly shorter while the track is wider. Oh, and they kept the stock STI S209 carbon fiber roof, which is a cool touch I guess. Of course, you can't see it because it's covered with the livery but rest assured, it's there.

Next in line: active aero. Since this is a car that has to perform precise maneuvers around obstacles (where you need downforce) but it also has to jump over various objects, active aerodynamics were key in offering the best of both worlds.

Now, engine-wise, the car rocks a boxer unit with a big turbo attached to it. The engine itself displaces 2.3 liters despite starting life as a 2-liter mill and it pretty much dictated the customization of everything that connects to it as it was dialed up to produce 862 horsepower. There's more about this and all the other smart solutions that hide beneath the hood - like, for example, the mid-mounted gearbox, in the video below.
