Trucks with hot engines are the norm these days, right? The upcoming 2021 Ram Rebel TRX is all the rage these days. Then there’s the Ranger Raptor that’s yet to hit U.S. shores.

However, many aftermarket companies are capitalizing on this vacuum and building special packages and kits for existing trucks. However, these trucks come with big tires, wide fenders, and generally focus on off-roading prowess. But, do you remember a time when automakers used to build fast trucks? Well, North Carolina-based tuner Mallett Performance has turned the clock back and is offering this one-off highly-customized Chevy Colorado for just $63,500. Are you interested?

It Is Powered By Cadillac’s LF4 V-6 Mill

Mallett Performance showcased this truck at the 2015 SEMA Show.

However, the mechanics ripped it apart and rebuilt it with forged pistons, forged crankshaft, titanium connecting rods, custom 64mm C&R intercooler, and many custom CNC-machined components, along with a throttle body from the seventh-gen Chevy Corvette.

The turbos in the engine were swapped with a Magnuson 1.9-liter supercharger and Mallett’s Intercooled Supercharger Manifold assembly. The same engine in the stock condition makes 464 horses under the Cadillac ATS-V’s hood. Here, the power is cranked up and the mill makes around 700 ponies. It is also designed to run on 109 Octane race fuel. Finally, Mallett has also installed a custom high-flow exhaust to complement the mods.

Even The Chassis Has Been Tweaked

Mallett Performance also modified the rear chassis and framework to handle all the power available with the new engine setup. This one-of-a-kind Colorado is equipped with custom Penske coil-overs - the result is a lower ride height. If you don’t like this setup, you can adjust the ride height as per your needs.

As for the exterior bits, the truck is painted in a deep green paint shade. This example rides on copper-brown colored Forgeline custom concave wheels wrapped around BF Goodrich G-force Rival tires. A carbon front splitter, revised front fascia, and rear lip spoiler that further enhance the truck’s unique looks.

Final Thoughts

Muscle trucks have a certain zing to them that today’s big, bulbous off-road trucks don’t. Ram started the trend 15 years back when it launched the low-riding Ram SRT-10. This truck was powered by Dodge Viper's V-10 mill. However, the market was not mature enough to handle it, thus sending it off the production line within three years of its inception. Although the market is now moving more towards hardcore off-roaders, low-riding muscle trucks could make a comeback in the near future.

Coming back to Mallett Performance’s child, the reason it is selling this beauty is to make room for new projects, Mallett says. The truck is currently located in North Carolina and has covered only 600 miles since its inception five years ago. This show dog has attended many auto shows but barely been on the road. According to a Facebook ad, Mallett is charging just $63,500 for this truck. Considering the amount of work that’s gone into it, this seems like a throwaway price.
