The Nurburgring is the unquestioned king of all race tracks in the world, home to not just the most prestigious races in the racing circuit, but also commercial cars looking to test their wares against the competition. You know all that talk about the ‘Nurburgring Lap’?

That’s a very critical piece of information for automakers far and wide to determine how their sports cars measure up against the competition. Over the years, there have been numerous claims to the lap record for a street-legal production vehicle through whatever loophole you can think of. While some cars are considered street-legal anywhere in the world, other models like the Pagani Zonda R, the Gumpert Apollo, the Ferrari 599XX, and the Ultima GTR don’t have that all-encompassing breadth of legality. They’re legal in some parts of the world and illegal in other parts and thus aren’t counted in the standings. As such, a lot of people have trouble putting those cars in the same league as the ‘street-legal-worldwide’ category – and rightfully so.

So to sort out all the information and determine which street-legal car can truly stake claim for being the fastest of the lot in the ‘Ring, the Nurburgring track blog Bridge to Gantry decided to dig up the lap times and found that the real ‘King of the Ring’ is none other than the 2008 Dodge Viper ACR.

The list is classified as the “Fastest Production Car Lap of the Nurburgring” with the Viper ACR actually ranking seventh with the four aforementioned supercars higher on the list together with the Donkervoort D8 270 RS and the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Of all the cars ahead of the Viper ACR, only the Porsche GT2 RS could have a possible stake to the title, but according to the guys at BTG, the lack of video evidence is the only thing that’s keeping it from wrestling the crown of ‘King of the Ring’ from the Viper ACR.

So how about it, Porsche? Let’s see that video!

Most of the car wants to make a record in the Nurburgring for its official. Well, the performance of the car here is quite impressive. I wonder on what’s the lap time record of this car?

Viper is one of the high performing vehicle in the line up of Dodge. The car has an awesome speed performance and aggressive styling! The competition between the Porsche 911 is quite an interesting race!

Many have tried to make a record in the Nurburgring track so I don’t think that this car is still have the fastest lap. And I agree that they should try to compete with the 12C

I wonder if there’s still a production for the Viper? However, I suggest that Viper would look at the lap time record of the Mclaren 12C before saying so!

Hey dude, calm down. Any cars could actually speculate they’re the fastest. Why don’t join the race together and see who among these cars will win the race.

Oh really? I can’t believe that this car is powerful enough to make such wonderful record. I wonder who will win between the Viper and the Mclaren.

Well, I do believe that this car has a powerful engine ans I think that the role of the Viper to beat all its opponent.

Wow! This is so cool! Knowing that Dodge Viper can actually win against the Porsche GT2. It seems that everyone should know by now who is the king of the road!

I was expecting that they are going to replaced the interior with a lighter materials to make the car lighter. I don’t want them to cut down the car’s accessories, most probably the car will look like a fish bone if that thing happens.

Well, aside from the car’s performance, the driver’s skills would also be a contributing factor in determining a car’s speed. But that one is not really big here.

In some cases, they would actually overhaul the whole car to make it go faster. They would make the frame lighter, aside from improving the engines performance.

I wonder what kinds of upgrade they did to the car to make it go that fast. They have probably replaced the entire engine or simply put in a turbocharger.

This is what I like about the Nurburgring, I got to see cars that attempt to set a record. Well, honestly, I didn’t expect that Viper could win against the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Give this one just a week and someone else would surely shatter it. That’s really how it goes in the record circuit, you need to watch out because someone can beat your mark anytime.

Hmm, a lot of these car companies are becoming quite obsessed with all those speed records lately. But then again, who can blame them? These are good promotional stunts after all.

Thats a nerve breaking drive for a production car on such track. I’m sure, this one deserves the King of the ring title.
