Who would’ve thought that the fastest Ferrari->ke252 in the world would be a car that was built 25 years ago? Okay, there’s still that matter of authenticating the time, but still, the feat itself is pretty darn impressive.

Using a stock-bodied 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, the folks over at P4 by Norwood, led by owner Steve Trafton, were able to run the Ferrari at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah at a record speed of 275.4 mph averaged over two trials. Pretty impressive, huh?

Not only were they able to stake claim as the running the fastest Ferrari on the planet, but they also managed to become the fastest sports car in the world, beating the previous record by well over 3mph.

Now, here’s where it gets a little tricky. Despite the body being that of a 1985 288 GTO, the car was able to reach that speed without the help of an Italian engine underneath. What they put in under the hood of the 288 GTO was a 540 cubic-inch General motors V8 with a couple of Borg Warner 80-mm turbos to give the car some added oomph.

Regardless of what’s under that hood of the 1985 Ferrari 288 GTO, 275.4 mph is still beyond ridiculous. Let’s see somebody try to go faster than that.
