We all knew the Corvette Stingray Z06 was going to be a fantastic supercar.->ke177 What, with its 650-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8, seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission, and those massive Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, how could you expect otherwise?

Well the first round of tests are in, including this one from our friends at MotorTrend. They take two examples of the Z06 to the track for some fast paced fun. The first car and the one dressed in yellow is equipped with the Z07 and the Stage 2 aerodynamics packages, adding stickier tires, carbon-ceramic brakes, and a all the extra aero bits for added downforce.

Host Carlos Lago takes the car for a spin around MotorTrend’s famed figure eight course where the Z06 laid down the best performance numbers they’ve ever tested for a production car, coming sort of only the Porsche 918.->ke3629 Zero to 60 came in only 3.2 seconds with the quarter mile following in 11.3 seconds at 126.2 mph. Stops from 60 to 0 only took a stunning 91 feet.

Then MT’s version of the Stig takes the wheel of a white Z07-equipped Z06 with the full-on Stage 3 aero kit and the new eight-speed automatic. Randy Pobst blasts the car around Road Atlanta, setting a lap time of 1:30.18 seconds. That’s stunningly fast.

So how’s the Z06 drive? You’ll have to watch the video->ke278 for that.

2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06

The Corvette Stingray Z06 is essentially a replacement for the last generation Corvette ZR1. Both cars use a supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8, though the C7 Stingray’s V-8 is basically all new from the oil pan up. Now pumping out 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of toque, the Z06 is the most capable track car Chevrolet has ever sent down the production line.

With a price starting just under $80,000 and only rising to the low $100,000 area, the Z06 isn’t a “great supercar for the price,” it’s a great supercar that costs half as much as the next guy. Kudos GM.
