The 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has a massive appetite for both drag and track races. Winning them, too. Not that long ago, Ford’s top dog showed it is no pushover in front of the Ferrari 812 Superfast and Porsche 911 GT3 RS, beating the Hellcat effortlessly in a quarter-mile race. But this time, it has to face the Redeye.

As it turns out, the Shelby GT500 is also well-equipped to do battle against its domestic rivals. In this new episode of Throttle House, the go-fast Mustang had to face the challenge of Chevrolet’s ZL1 1LE and Dodge’s Challenger Hellcat Redeye, under the close supervision of Jason Cammisa and Randy Pobst.

The Only Things Missing From This Comparison Are the American Flag and an Apple Pie

The Hellcat and the Shelby GT500 meet again, this time joined by the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE. As you know all too well by now, the GT500 is fitted with a 5.2-liter V-8 slapped with a supercharger, granting it with 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque harnessed by a fast-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The Hellcat Redeye was blessed (pun intended) with the Demon’s vicious (also supercharged) 6.2-liter V-8. With 797 horsepower and 707 pound-feet of torque on tap, the Dodge is the most powerful and torquey car of the bunch. All that grunt reaches the ground through an eight-speed auto that spins the rear wheels.

Of course, given the high-output engines involved in this skirmish, the ZL1 1LE’s 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque might not seem like much, but hey, don’t be fooled by that: 650 horsepower is still 650 horsepower just like a baby shark is still a damn shark. The Camaro’s oomph also comes from a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 which was originally bolted exclusively to a six-speed manual, but as of 2019, a 10-speed transmission can be specified on the 1LE.

The video does include a drag race between the three muscle cars and the obvious winner is the Hellcat Redeye. That shouldn’t come as a surprise: it’s what the Redeye was built for in the first place and it looks like the Demon’s influence has worked like a charm for that matter.

On a track race, however, things get a tad more complicated. There are no lightweight cars in this fight, but we’ll have to mention that the ZL1 1LE was designed and built with track performance in mind, so it’s definitely got the edge here.

Needless to say, we won’t spoil all the fun, so you’ll have to watch the video to find out which muscle car emerged victorious on the Willow Springs circuit.
