With the U.S. spreading its “wings” from coast to coast, there’s bound to be a lot of unearthed automotive treasures. Barn Find Hunter does exactly that, with Hagerty blessing. Sometimes, however, the cars that you stumble upon in barns are truly insane and in more than one way. Such is the case with Dave Coleman -a car enthusiast, weekend racer, and an all-time car nut. Some of the things he has are truly insane and obscure, and in this latest episode of Barn Find Hunter, he discovers something truly unexpected.

Barn Find Hunter, Tom Cotter met Dave Coleman at a racetrack, and they quickly decided to do a road trip in a custom, Ford Model T that was modified to reach speeds of 80 mph (129 km/h). For comparison, a stock Ford Model T could reach 45 mph (72.4 km/h). As for the 80-mph Model T, it features a custom body and a lot of “speed equipment," such as a 16-valve conversion that doubles the power output.

The weirdness doesn’t stop there as Dave has many other obscure vehicles lying around, including a Hudson Pacemaker, which represented the “cheaper” section of the Hudson lineup, in contrast to the Hudson Hornet. The Pacemaker is modified in a very interesting way by strapping an airplane turbocharger to the stock 3.8-liter inline-six and a Jaguar carburetor. In stock form, the Hudson Pacemaker makes 112 horsepower at 4,00 RPM, with a 6.7:1 compression ratio, but Dave doesn’t mention what the new power output is. The transmission is upgraded to a five-speed manual.

Other unique and unusual barn finds include a 1960 Ford Starliner with a 360-horsepower, 352 cubic-inch NASCAR V-8 engine, a Porsche 914-6, and three Ford Merkurs (Sierra in Europe), at least one of which is the desirable XR4 Ti model. As far as mid-1980s cars go, the Merkur/Sierra is one of the best, aerodynamically-sorted vehicles, and with the right hardware, it could top 200 mph (322 km/h). The barn finds tour is rounded off by a spirited drive of the heavily customized Ford Model T, which you can see in the video. The level of weirdness and sheer variety of cars here is immense.
