The news of Chevrolet’s->ke199 newest supercar can hit 60 mph in just 2.95 seconds is astonishing. No other rear-wheel-drive, front-engine car can hit those numbers. But how does the 2015 Corvette Z06 slow its roll? Well, it employs some of the biggest brakes in the GM->ke1024 fleet.

The carbon ceramic-matrix rotors measure 15.5 inches up front and 15.3 inches across out back. These massive rotors are ventilated and cross-drilled for cooling and pressure reduction. And since the rotors are CCM, they are corrosion free even after the hardest rain. The CCM rotors also don’t exhibit any deflection under hard braking, thereby eliminating vibrations.

Clamping those rotors are Brembo monobloc calipers. A six-piston design up front uses three different sized pistons measuring 30 mm, 34 mm, and 38 mm from bottom to top. This helps improve the performance of the high-grade brake pads under hard braking. The Brembos bring the Corvette->ke1280 to a halt from 60 mph in a crazy short 99.6 feet. The calipers come in three colors; yellow, grey, and red – per the customer’s choice.

With stoppers like these Brembos the Z06 can brake later, and quicker, which should cause the seconds to fall from the stopwatch at tracks around the world. While the 650-horsepower, supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 has no problem accelerating the car, every second counts when the racing gets tight, and this new braking setup just gives the Corvette one more advantage against its many rivals.
