Video: Chevrolet gives an inside peek as to how the Volt is created

Ever wondered what goes on behind the production of a car – and an electric one at that? Thanks to Chevrolet, you can now take an exclusive look at how the Chevrolet Volt is created from inception to roll out. Through a series of videos the company released, those who have always wondered how an electric car can come to be only needs to watch these videos to find out.

This particular video – the second episode in a series of videos – talks about how the bodywork of the Volt is created. From assembling the metal sheets of the body parts, the factory moves to welding these parts together until it can be taken to the next step where all the exterior parts like doors, hoods and trunks can be added. When the engineers finish that part, the body work is now ready for the next step, which is painting it in the right colorways.

While we may have already described the entirety – or at least close to it – of the video, we think that it’s still worth a good watch.

In additon, the Prius is roughly half of the price of the Volt, and for the same price you could get Lexus’ new HS Hybrid. Nobody will ever buy this thing.

The Volt does have a longer range for the electric motor, but it is far less fuel efficient when the gas engine is working, so your average fuel ecomony in the Volt is around 50 mpg, while in the Prius you’ll average 74.5 mpg (as tested by Autoweek).

well they probably have different meanings but if you were to drive the volt to a distance before its motor kicks in your not consuming fuel while with the prius you are

Um... I don’t know where you’ve been the last couple of years, but the Volt is not an electric car, it’s a plug-in hybrid. It has a 100 horsepower 1.4 liter inline-4 in addition to its 149 horsepower electric motor.

well the prius isnt an electric car in the end if the reliability of this is good it could be a better package than the prius but if toyota makes an all electric car it probably would be better than the volt

Or how about "why the Prius is better".

I think they should name this video "tape that lets you search for production concerns that make this car ".
