For a lot of us, trying to understand the inner workings of a race car and comprehend all the engineering details that come with it is an exercise in futility.

But for those who spend their lives in pursuit of building the fastest and most powerful race car they can develop, it's a rush like no other.

In this promotional video, we're taken for an behind-the-scenes look at the development of construction of the Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, the new Corvette->ke4603 race car->ke148 that recently made its worldwide debut. Far be it for us to wax about how the racer was built, we're instead leaving it to Pratt & Miller, the people who were actually behind the development of the Corvette C7.R to take us on a four-minute documentary showing exactly the science that was used in building a race car that's already being touted as 40 percent stronger than the model it's replacing, the C6.R.

The video stops short in giving the race car's actual performance numbers, although we do know that a naturally-aspirated 5.5-liter, V-8 engine with direct injection is going to be used. That's the extent of it, but as far as seeing the race car in action is concerned, we won't have to wait too long because the Corvette C7.R is scheduled to compete in the Rolex 24 at the Daytona International Speedway this weekend.

We're going to have our eyes and ears on full alert to observe how Chevrolet's new endurance race car is going to handle now that it's ready to smell the air of real competition.

2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R}

When the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R goes out on the race track this weekend, everybody's going to see whether it's a contender or a just a fancy gift-wrapped pretender. The race car will have its proverbial hands full with the likes of Porsche, Ferrari, BMW, and Aston Martin all competing in its class so winning isn't going to be easy regardless of what its pedigree and resume has to offer.

That being said, the Corvette race team has 90 global victories and 10 manufacturer championships under its belt since beginning in 1999, so maybe it will be just another exhibition of dominance from one of the winningest teams in the series.

Whatever the case may be, we'll be tuning in to Daytona this weekend to see which side of the line the Corvette C7.R belongs in.
