Nobody saw this coming, or at least those who don’t know the underlying secrets of why this custom electric Volkswagen Beetle laid the smackdown on a Tesla Roadster in a quarter-mile drag race.

While people may question the manhood of the Roadster for losing to a Beetle, it’s worth noting that this Bug, which was the handiwork of brothers Olly and Sam Young, is far from being a typical car. The Beetle actually has two electric motors - 60 Odyssey PC680 12V batteries and a Zilla 2K motor controller - that delivers as much as 1,200 lb.-ft. of torque. With all that power, the Beetle, aka the Black Current III, can clear 0-60 mph in just three seconds while posting a quarter-mile time of 11.24 seconds at 114 mph.

Proving that perception isn’t always reality, this souped-up electric Beetle takes on a Tesla Roadster, which now seems to be woefully incompetent in putting up a fight against the electric Beetle. Watch the video and see how the race unfolds.

Kirby’s first exposure into the world of automobiles happened when he caught Knight Rider on television as a five-year old boy. David Hasselhoff didn’t leave much of an impression on him (that happened later on in Baywatch), but KITT certainly did. To this day, Kirby remains convinced that he will one day own a car with the same ‘spirit’ as the original KITT (not the 2008 monstrosity). He doesn't know when that will be, but until then, he’s committed to expressing his love for KITT, and all cars for that matter, here at TopSpeed.  Read More

Battling between the Beetle and Roadster is not a good idea..See, when the Beetle loose therefore the performance of the Roadster would be so questionable..smiley
